When You Have Multiple Unrelated Blogs

in Blogging Advice

I have three blogs, four if you count my family’s cat blog. And I’ve gradually come out of the blogging closet over the past year and a half of blogging. At first, like many people, blogging was just a way to share updates and photos with far flung family and friends. Then I decided, with my budget and money woes, to explore personal finance and frugality though having my own blog.

It took a while for me to let people in on my dirty little secret: my blog’s address. But let them in I did, and gradually people began to mention that they had read what I wrote the other day, or pick up a conversation in mid post.

Months went by before I began to feel comfortable with people I knew knowing about my blogs. Partly because I divulged so much personal information, partly because I projected a persona that I wasn’t necessarily comfortable with.

Now I mention clearly that I am a blogger; I’ve even listed it on my CV. And instead of feeling like my blog could hurt me with potential employers, I feel like the content of my blog, both past and present, validates this choice.

What if you don’t want people to be able to find your blogs? You blog anonymously, of course. The question becomes a bit more complicated when you would be happy for them to find one, but not the other. One of my favorite bloggers just wrote an interesting post about this very issue, which you can find here.

To sum up, I would have to say that my current method serves me quite well. If you are looking for Almost Frugal, you’ll find it. And if you google my full name, you’ll find me as well and probably a mention to Almost Frugal too. However, if you’re looking to find me via Almost Frugal, you’ll have a bit more of a problem.

Could not figure out which name to use for this comment. ;)

I’ve told a number of my good friends about my PF blog. A couple have even started their own debt-reduction journeys, which thrills me! But I feel like I can tell more casual acquaintances, coworkers, business contacts, and prospective employers about BlogCrafted.

Now that I’ve finished moving the site, I need to put together a list of “recommended collaborators.” :)

@Ms Crafty,

And it took me a while to figure out how to word this post so as not to add a link from the one blog to the other!
